NEW TOWER INSTALL
Dale WB1FBV bought a used 55 ft crankup. We had to do a little welding on it and Dale repainted it with cold galvanized spray. We assembled the sections restringing the cables and installed a new Ham IV rotor and a Yaesu thrust bearing. We poured a 2’X2’X4′ foundation, with cage, next to the house. 6 of us carried the tower up to the side of the house and bolted it to the foundation. With the help of a small 12v winch and plenty of man power, we lifted the tower up to it’s vertical position and bolted it down. It is strapped to the peak of the house which makes it a very stable platform.
We carried up his new Mosley TA-63-N antenna and bolted that to the 2″ mast pipe. The mast pipe is short so the antenna is only about 5′ above the peak of the roof with the tower nested. This certainly makes it convenient for working on the antenna or rotor. The tower is raised and lowered by a 110v hoist. Here’s a few pictures of the setup that Dale says works excellent.
